In fact, studies have shown that people who work in an office are specifically more likely to suffer from chronic back pain than those who have a physically demanding job. By implementing the four steps below into your work day, you can help put an end to unwanted back strain and keep your business pain free.

  • Stay active. Our bodies are naturally designed for activity and movement, yet our technology-driven society often leads us down the path of a more sedentary lifestyle. Take frequent, quick breaks at work to stretch, go to the restroom or get a glass of water – every little movement helps.
  • Change your chair. Having an office chair with lumbar support is crucial in aiding work-place back pain. A chair with a forward curve at belly button level will help support the natural curve of your spine.
  • Position your monitor. Placing your monitor an arm’s length away will encourage you to sit back and keep better posture. Your monitor, as well as keyboard, should remain directly in front of you at all times to avoid neck and back strain.
  • Optimize phone calls. If you often find yourself tucking your phone between your head and shoulder to free up your hands when on the phone at work, it might be time to invest in a headset. Tucking your phone for extended periods of time causes intense strain on the neck and shoulders.
